I was married twice and was the financially responsible one for both. We did couples therapy during both, and I did my own therapy. I went so far once as to make a slide presentation about why I needed my partner to be on the same page as me. I tried love notes, straight-up talks, involving my partner in using an all-cash budget in envelopes… nothing worked for either. Now I’m divorced, single, in control, saving for my retirement, traveling, and have never been happier. Not to say it can’t be solved, but reading this just made me that much happier that I am no longer on a sinking ship I can’t patch.
